Luv Ka The End

Cast: Shraddha Kapoor, Taaha Shah, Shenaz Treasuryvala, Jannat Zubair Rahmani
Director: Bumpy

Gone are the days of endless melodramatic stories, dance in the lush green scenic places of Switzerland, chiffon saris, promises of everlasting love. Make way for new age high school romance, where girls will break your bones if you break their hearts. With the changing times, Yash Raj Films too has altered its course by venturing into youth based films under a new banner Y Films and their first offering itself has the potential to become a huge hit.

The promo tag, don't get mad, get even itself gives you the hint to beware of the new age girls! Luv Ka The End is the story of Rhea (Shraddha Kapoor), a quintessential girl next door is in love with Luv Nanda (Taaha Shah), the richest, most popular boy in college. On the eve of her 18th birthday, they plan to take their relationship to the 'next level'. When accidentally she finds out Luv is not as nice as she thought he was. Rhea decides to not get mad, but to get even and bring Luv Nanda down! All in the span of one night with the help of her friends. After directing youth-based shows like Roadies, Splitsvilla and Bakra, Bumpy forays into filmmaking and in his debut film itself packs a punch. The film purely rides on his shoulders. The way he treats a simple story as a master revenge saga is truly gripping.

The first half is so fast paced and you completely get drawn into Rhea's world. However, there's a slight slump in the second. The only negative to the film is that it remains a boy bashing film throughout. A little action from Luv's side could've made the film more entertaining. Another thing which hits the eye is excessive in film branding. So you have Lakme, MNG, Nine West, Mentos all products smartly incorporated in the film. However, the smart screenplay coupled with great acting by each and every actor covers up for the flaws. Shraddha Kapoor as Rhea is good in parts while Taaha acts brilliant. His transformation from a sophisticated metro sexual boy to a rowdy bar dancer in the Mutton Song is outstanding! Special mentions of side kick Pushtiie Shakti. The girl who was the lead in Yash Raj Films television show Mahi Way is hilarious! Shenaz Treasuryvala barely has any role. Ali Zafar looks like a complete rock star in the last song of the film.

Music by Ram Sampat is already becoming a hit. Even the lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya are very different from the regular run of the mill songs. Over all, Luv Ka The End is a refreshing beginning to new age entertainment! Should work very well among the youth of the nation a must watch. Seriously, 'Luv Ka The End' could well have been relegated to MTV/Channel V short films segment as there is absolutely nothing that is a good enough reason for you to visit a theatre, spend helluva money on ticket/popcorn and then see a film which is small by all means, whether setting, idea or execution. One can sense that director Bumpy had to work in a restricted budget and that reflects in the overall narrative.

One can still live with a small setting if the film grips you enough. However this is something truly lacking in 'Luv Ka The End' as it doesn't even try to be imaginative and follows a route that is not just predictable but also unexciting. Inspired by 'John Tucker Must Die', the film has a 18 year old girl (Shraddha Kapoor) taking revenge on her cheating boyfriend (Taaha Shah) by ganging up with her band of girls and a computer geek. The story is set in a night where the idea is to get even on Taaha by depriving him of four C's - Car, Cash, Charm and Chamchas.

Well, so far so very good as you do get an impression that there indeed would be some innovation in going through these chapters. You do empathise with Shraddha, the motive for revenge is well established as well, the song 'Tonight' continues to haunt you throughout and there is game set for 'love ka the end'! However from this point on the key element fun starts fading away with every passing sequence. Girls spraying itching powder in Taaha's undergarments, ganging up to smash his car, depriving him of his credit card, spoiling his date with a hot friend, drugging him so that he loses his mind and lands in a downmarket bar and then hooking him up with a gay friend it's all so conveniently done.

Worse, the song 'Mutton' which is seemingly placed as a last minute inclusion, is not just unnecessary but also repulsive. It's the climax though that takes the cake, a bitter one at that, with a live footage of Taaha trying to get even with Shraddha. Not just in bad taste, it is also incomprehensible and just not happening. Eventually what still remains with you to some extent is the song 'Tonight', Shraddha's natural act and a perfect casting as a teenager, Taaha's charm that makes one believe that he has a lot better to offer and a few moments here and there that are reasonably enjoyable. A film that wasn't too high on expectations please promised a lot more than what it actually delivers; this film directed by Bumpy is surprisingly low on entertainment quotient, something that is a basic requirement of a teen comedy. Juvenile and amateur that's what 'Luv Ka The End' is for you.Love in the times of BBM is a three-letter word. It comes with an ironic 'u'. Anniversary celebrations mark the end of a month's relationship. Girls wish to become models. Guys want to host parties that get covered on TV and newspaper supplements. BFFs (best friends forever) chat over video screens on their cellphone.

Some Freddy Kapoor is supposedly the biggest rockstar from the posters on the wall. The song that bathroom singers hum is Himesh's Mann Ka Radio. The party never stops. At least not for a kid named Luv. His accent's flux American. His car, the Jag, is British (or should we say Indian now). His women are up for public display. He posts videos of him making out with them on a site called the 'Billionaire Boys' Club'. His final mission in life is to put up clips of him having sex. His girl nabs on. She wants to rid him of the 4Cs that define his life: car, cash, charm, 'chamchas' (hangers-on).

This is just an XL sheet movie from a supposed docket that defines youth as some condescending, amorphous term from marketing alone. The filmmakers are desperately trying to look in from the distant outside. They've spotted places where kids usually hang out: "Carter's" in Mumbai's Bandra; if not at the gym, literally talking to their biceps. Any story would do to put together a series of ads: Lakme, Mentos, Onida cellphones seriously?.

This revenge comedy endlessly pans out over an immeasurably long day, or night. All that you freakishly wonder is: Who are these dodos? What's up with them? Should humans, like certain species, begin to eat their own young now? Can just a cellphone dull out the zaniness of being restless and 18? If this movie were true, yes. But it's not. So, not to worry, "babes" (yup, I hate that word too). "Chill!" Just tag along with these bozos, watch them enter a gay bar, without any context, as tranny strippers go, "Tera jism jism. Tera badan badan. Yeh toh hai bus, Mutton mutton." Luv it. Huh!The brand new movie ‘Luv Ka The End’ is a romantic sex comedy that will make you laugh your heart out. It is the first film produced by the Y Films, which is a part of the Yash Raj Films. The director of the movie Bumpy has gone all out to make it a successful project. Taaha Shah and Shraddha Kapoor play the lead roles in the movie. The music director of the movie, Ram Sampath has done a good job. The sound tracks are catchy and melodious. Specifically the title track ‘Luv Ka The End’ needs a special mention.

The plot of the flick revolves around two youngsters who are studying in college. The movie shows how their lives change when they fall in love with each other and what happens when one of them dumps the other. After getting over the initial shock and grief the girl gets determined to have revenge and this is when all hell breaks loose. The movie is a lot similar to the Hollywood flick ‘John Tucker Must Die’. It is a good movie that can make you forget your daily stress and enjoy a hearty laugh. We recommend viewing the movie.
